What is the Comprehensive Dyslexia Screener (CDS)?

The Comprehensive Dyslexia Screener (CDS) is a valuable tool for exploring the symptoms of dyslexia. This screener is designed to identify the likelihood of a diagnosis of dyslexia or a specific language disorder and also provides insights into the specific type of dyslexia as well as other underlying deficits. The CDS investigates the following possible types: auditory phonological, visual perceptual, visual surface, rapid naming, and attention related dyslexia. It also explores higher order language skills and working memory symptomatology. A detailed report offers explanations and remedial suggestions and resources, while a user dashboard enables group comparisons and analysis. Finally, for those that want to learn more about dyslexia, we offer a variety of informative training resources.

Our goal is to assist individuals, educators, clinicians, and parents in comprehending and tackling the specific challenges related to dyslexia and determining if formal testing, cognitive remediation, or academic support is needed. By doing so, we aim to enhance overall functioning and success in various aspects of life, including education, work, and daily tasks.

Who Takes the CDS?

By gaining perspective from multiple individuals, a learners' strengths, challenges, and needs can be holistically addressed. Please note the CDS is valuable for both individuals with prior diagnoses and those who have never been assessed. Its strength lies in identifying the root causes of difficulties, paving the way for targeted and effective remedial approaches.
MMM
Learner

Learners aged 9 and older are eligible to take the CDS. It is beneficial to have an adult assist young learners and those with learning challenges during the screening process. Helping learners should focus on clarifying items rather than providing answers.

MMM
Parent

Parents can also attempt the screener on behalf of their children. In many cases, parents have a unique perspective on challenges their children might not be able to articulate or recognize.

MMM
Teacher

Teachers with a deep understanding of a learner's behavior and performance can also take the CDS on their behalf. By doing so, teachers can pinpoint specific areas of difficulty they have observed in the classroom.

MMM
Professional

Professionals who have consistently interacted with learners on a one-to-one basis are also eligible to take the CDS. As a result of their unique perspective, they can identify specific challenges encountered in individual sessions.
